Victoria Anne Cranmer, a 25-year-old woman from New Jersey, has been charged with sexually assaulting a boy described as 'young enough to be in nappies.' The alleged abuse was recorded, and at least one video was shared on Snapchat, according to court documents.
Charges and Arrest
Cranmer was arrested last week and faces multiple charges: second-degree sexual assault, second-degree manufacturing of child sexual abuse material, third-degree possession of child sexual abuse material, and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. She remains in custody after bail was denied and has yet to enter a plea.
Discovery of the Videos
The investigation began when Cranmer's former roommate, identified in court documents as 'Ms. P,' found a 14-second video on a phone that had been bought for Cranmer as a birthday present. The roommate had asked Cranmer to move out and told her to leave the device behind. While looking through the phone, Ms. P discovered the disturbing footage. She 'freaked out' upon seeing it, saved a copy, locked Cranmer out of her social media account, and handed the device to investigators.
According to an affidavit, the video allegedly shows Cranmer sexually abusing a child in a bathroom of a home in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey. Investigators identified Cranmer by distinctive tattoos visible in the footage, including a design on her leg depicting a pair of breasts.
Impact on the Victim
Another woman, identified as 'Ms. H,' told investigators that her son had been acting out of character and shying away from the bathtub after spending time with Cranmer. Ms. H later learned that Cranmer would take baths with her son. The child's fear of bathtime was a direct result of the alleged abuse, according to the affidavit.
Several other videos of Cranmer and the alleged victim in the bathroom were also found on the phone. In one video, Cranmer was allegedly laughing while assaulting the child, according to court documents seen by NJ.com. Prosecutors believe at least one of the videos was shared on Snapchat.
Additional Context
Cranmer had occasionally looked after Ms. P's daughter as well as Ms. H's son. The case highlights the vulnerability of young children to abuse by trusted individuals. Cranmer is being held in Ocean County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
