A bride has gone viral after taking her husband's unusual surname, which has left some people questioning its authenticity. Laura Wood married her husband Danny in July 2025, after 14 years together. The couple met at university in Preston and have been inseparable ever since.
For years, Laura's friends joked about her potential surname change, suggesting double-barrelled alternatives like 'Large-Wood' or 'Wood-Large'. At the time, she worked a 9-to-5 graphic design job and worried that signing off emails as 'Laura Large' might not be taken seriously. Now self-employed as a nail technician and living in Stockport, the 32-year-old rarely uses her full name.
Laura told What's The Jam: 'I used to find the idea of taking his name quite funny. It felt surreal because us getting married was a way off, so it just felt like a joke.' She added: 'I'm only 4ft 11in, which makes the Large name funnier.'
The couple got engaged in 2021 on their 10-year anniversary during a staycation in Bath. Their wedding ceremony took place at Stockport Town Hall on 4 July, followed by a red vintage bus taking 70 guests to Manchester city centre. Laura later posted a video on TikTok revealing her new surname, which went viral with 34,000 reactions and 1,400 comments, some referencing the children's book series 'The Large Family'.
Laura explained that her husband wanted to keep his surname as the only boy in his family, and they wanted the same name for their children. She said: 'I'm quite headstrong, and if I didn't want the name, I wouldn't have taken it. It feels nice having the same name – it's like having a connection and makes us feel closer.'
