Tyler Mitchell, 22, of Westbourne Road, Neath, appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Wednesday for sentencing. He had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing an indecent photograph of a child and three counts of making an indecent photograph of a child.
Six-year obsession with abuse images
The court heard that Mitchell had been viewing indecent images of young children since the age of 15. His offending came to light in July 2025 when police acting on intelligence searched and seized phones belonging to him.
Officers found 432 Category A images – the most serious category – 304 Category B images, and 114 Category C images.
Judge's condemnation and sentence
Judge Huw Rees told Mitchell that these were “serious and despicable offences” involving “very young children”. He added: “Showing any interest in such images as you did for a long period of time between the ages of 15 and 21 creates a demand for further abuse of children.”
Mitchell was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months. He must complete 150 hours of unpaid work and a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement. He was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register, both for a period of seven years.
