Two sisters from Texas are facing serious criminal charges after authorities discovered three young children living in what police described as deplorable and unsanitary conditions.
Kendrea Leann Mays, 28, and Aysia Monique Mays, 23, have both been charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury following a disturbing discovery at their Houston-area residence.
Disturbing Discovery
According to court documents, the investigation began when concerned individuals reported potential child neglect. When officers arrived at the property, they were confronted with conditions that one officer described as among the worst they had encountered.
The home was found to be in a state of extreme filth, with trash and debris scattered throughout. Police noted the overwhelming odour of urine and faeces, indicating the children had been living in unsanitary conditions for an extended period.
Injuries and Evidence of Neglect
The three children, all under the age of six, were examined by medical professionals who documented multiple injuries consistent with long-term neglect. Reports indicate the children showed signs of physical harm beyond the unsanitary living conditions.
One child was found with significant bruising and marks that appeared to be the result of physical abuse. All three children exhibited developmental delays and health issues that medical professionals linked to their living situation.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Both sisters now face felony charges that could result in substantial prison sentences if convicted. They have been taken into custody with bonds set at $50,000 each.
Child protective services have removed the children from the home and placed them in emergency care. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full extent of the abuse and how long the children endured these conditions.
The case has highlighted ongoing concerns about child welfare in the region and the importance of community reporting when potential abuse is suspected.
