A 15-year-old girl in northern India was allegedly gang-raped after her uncle lured her into a truck, and she only escaped by jumping from the moving vehicle on the Kanpur-Sagar highway in Sajeti, Uttar Pradesh. The teenager managed to make her way home and told her family, prompting her father to report the incident to Sajeti police. Two men have been arrested in connection with the assault.
Arrests and Charges Under POCSO Act
According to the Deccan Chronicle, police confirmed that the two accused appeared in court on Friday, July 17, after being charged under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, India's official criminal code. Krishnakant Yadav, assistant police commissioner, stated that during interrogation the pair admitted they had been drinking alcohol at the time of the alleged offence.
