A 32-year-old man is at the centre of serious criminal allegations after being charged by New South Wales police over an alleged sexual assault in the inner-city suburb of Glebe.
Daniel McCluskie faced a brief hearing at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday following the incident, which is alleged to have occurred at a residential property on Monday, 16th September.
Court documents state that the charges relate to an alleged attack on a woman known to the accused. The matter was reported to police shortly after the incident was said to have taken place.
McCluskie has been formally charged with one count of sexual intercourse without consent, an offence that carries a maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment under New South Wales law.
The accused did not enter a plea during his initial court appearance and was granted strict conditional bail by the presiding magistrate. His case has been adjourned for further mention at a later date.
A police spokesperson confirmed the investigation remains ongoing and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
As the case is now before the courts, legal restrictions prevent the publication of specific details that might identify the alleged victim or prejudice future proceedings.
The matter will return to court for further mention in October, where more details about the prosecution's case are expected to emerge.
