Six men charged with 60+ sexual offences over 13 years

Six men have been charged with more than 60 serious sexual offences against a single adult victim in a case spanning 13 years, Wiltshire Police have announced.

The Charges and the Accused

Philip Young, 49, formerly of Swindon and now living in Enfield, faces a total of 56 sexual offence charges. These include multiple counts of rape, administering a substance with intent to overpower for sexual activity, voyeurism, and possession of indecent and extreme images. He has been remanded into custody.

The victim, who has chosen to waive her legal right to lifelong anonymity, is his former wife, Joanne Young, 48. She is being supported by specialist officers and partner agencies.

Five other men have also been charged with offences against Joanne Young and have been released on bail. They are:

  • Norman Macksoni, 47, of Wood End Close, Sharnbrook – charged with one count of rape and possession of extreme images.
  • Dean Hamilton, 47, of no fixed abode – charged with rape, sexual assault by penetration, and two counts of sexual touching.

Victim's Decision and Police Investigation

All six men are due to appear at Swindon Magistrates' Court. The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2010 and 2023.

Detective Superintendent Geoff Smith described it as a "complex and extensive investigation." He confirmed the victim's decision to be named publicly was made after extensive discussions with officers and support services.

James Foster, a Specialist Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service, stated that prosecutors had determined there was sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and that proceeding was in the public interest.
