School assistant arrested for sexual abuse of teen pupil

A school administrative assistant has been arrested on allegations of sexually abusing a 16-year-old male student, after police discovered more than 19,000 text messages and 591 phone calls exchanged between the pair.

The Allegations

Amanda Katz, 55, allegedly began pursuing the teenager in December 2025, leading to a brief relationship that ended in February 2026. According to the teen's account to investigators, the pair engaged in multiple sexual encounters at Katz's home, in the backseat of her car, and during a trip together.

In one text exchange, Katz allegedly wrote: "I can't stop looking at you and certainly keep my hands. To myself. Just telling you this can get me fired…I need to leave Roswell…Please delete this entire thread." Another message reportedly read: "I have done a lot of stupid things. A lot. But this is top level."

Discovery and Investigation

The alleged relationship came to light when the boy's mother discovered the messages during a Valentine's weekend trip that included Katz and the victim's family, according to an arrest affidavit cited by People magazine. After the trip, Katz returned to school in a "manic state," complaining to a colleague that her boyfriend's mother had ended the relationship. The school's social worker told police that Katz eventually revealed the "boyfriend" was the minor victim.

Court documents state that Katz sought "reassurance from various peers" and help to find another man, saying she would "never get over it." The police investigation, launched in March 2026, uncovered over 19,000 texts and 591 calls between the two. The pair discussed their future life together and how to keep the relationship secret. Katz allegedly admitted her actions were "inappropriate and she could be arrested if detected," but still asked the boy to run away with her to Mexico.

Aftermath

The boy ended the relationship after the Valentine's trip, prompting Katz to send a frantic message: "I loved you. You f**king broke my heart… This is probably the worst thing anyone has ever done to me. You abandoned me. You did, not your mom."

Katz resigned on April 30 after the investigation began. She was arrested on June 2 but released on June 4 after posting a $25,000 bond. Formal charges have not yet been filed. The police department stated: "That investigation determined that Katz sexually assaulted a 16-year-old student during multiple off-site encounters between 2025 and 2026."
