Russell Brand Police Interview Tapes Released After Conviction
Russell Brand Police Interview Tapes Released

The Metropolitan Police has released video footage from a series of interviews with Russell Brand conducted between November 2023 and July 2025, showing the comedian nervous as he faced questions over allegations of rape and sexual assault.

The release follows Brand's conviction on Thursday, November 5, after a four-week trial at Southwark Crown Court. The 51-year-old was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault, and not guilty of two counts of rape and one charge of attempted indecent assault.

Nervous Demeanor in Interview Room

In the released videos, Brand appears noticeably different from his hyperactive, fast-talking TV persona. He glances nervously at the cameras and microphones in the police interview room, and quietly replies "I have nothing further to add" after hearing a woman's account of being raped by him.

When one detective told Brand they were filming and recording an interview in November 2023, the comedian is seen turning to look at a camera positioned above him and glancing nervously at the microphones on the table.

Prepared Statements Instead of Answers

When the allegation that he anally raped a 21-year-old fan after meeting her at the Hammersmith Apollo was put to him, Brand quietly and tersely replied: "I have nothing to add at this time." In other clips, he reads out printed copies of prepared statements that he issued instead of answering police questions.

In those statements, which featured during the trial, Brand lashed out at the 2023 investigation by The Times, Sunday Times and Channel 4 that first accused him of sexual misconduct. He said: "I led a very promiscuous life in the past, which I have spent years openly denouncing. On September 16 2023, a defamatory and fictitious documentary was broadcast in conjunction with the publication of two national newspapers containing false anonymised allegations which led to unprecedented media reporting."

He added: "Subsequently, both the media and the police publicly invited additional allegations to be made, which resulted in further encounters being invented or reimagined."

Sentencing Scheduled

Brand claimed to have had "friendly, consensual and warm" interactions with fans when there was "often physical contact," and said: "I had sexual encounters in countless locations and scenarios, often with people I had just met."

The judge told Brand in court on Thursday that a custodial sentence "of some length" will be handed to him on Monday, November 9. He has been remanded in custody and now faces years in prison.
