An 18-year-old refugee was allegedly held captive and repeatedly raped over a five-month period in Hyderabad, India. Police have confirmed that four men have been arrested on suspicion of the reported kidnapping and attack.
Discovery by Landlord
The ordeal came to light when the landlord arrived at the property to collect overdue rent. He found the door bolted from the outside and broke in at around 10pm last Friday (October 23). Inside, he discovered the teenager alone and helped her contact her relatives before she escaped the home and police were contacted.
According to the Times of India, Kanchanbagh Inspector J Balaraju said: "He is already married but lied to the victim about his marital status. After coming to Hyderabad, he married the teenager and confined her to a rented house."
Arrests and Charges
Police said a man took the refugee from Bangladesh to Hyderabad illegally in May 2026. He was already married and reportedly kept her locked inside the rented home while other men took it in turns to rape her for five months. The man has been arrested alongside three of his friends, who are also accused of raping the victim while she was locked inside.
A second police officer said: "After hearing what she had gone through, they brought her to the police on Monday." She was then taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Legal Proceedings
Police added: "Police recorded her statement at the Bharosa centre and sent her for a medical examination. The four accused have been booked under Sections 64(2)(m) (rape), 127(4) (wrongful confinement) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)."
The suspects remain in custody and are set to appear in court at a later date. Meanwhile, the police investigation is ongoing.
