A man who subjected women to a prolonged campaign of violent and sexual abuse has been sentenced to nine years in prison. Kyle MacDonald, 30, appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday, June 15, where he was found guilty of numerous offences committed over an eight-year period.
Details of the Crimes
MacDonald's reign of terror spanned from 2015 to 2023, targeting women in Ayrshire and West Lothian. His offences included rape, sexual assault, and assault causing severe injury, permanent disfigurement, and danger to life. Detectives described his actions as a "reprehensible" and "sustained pattern of abuse".
Sentencing and Orders
In addition to the prison term, MacDonald was issued lifelong non-harassment orders for his victims and was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely. These measures aim to protect the women he abused from any future contact.
Police Response
Detective Sergeant Lucy Mason praised the victims for their courage: "MacDonald carried out a sustained pattern of abuse over many years and will now face the consequences for his reprehensible actions. I would like to thank the women for their bravery in coming forward and reporting the abuse that they suffered. They were instrumental in achieving this outcome."
She added: "Police Scotland takes all reports of sexual abuse and violence seriously, no matter how much time has passed. I would encourage anyone who has or is experiencing abuse to please report it. You will be listened to and supported, and we will thoroughly investigate to bring the perpetrators to justice."
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed the sentencing, highlighting the severity of MacDonald's crimes and the importance of the non-harassment orders to ensure the safety of the victims.
