A man has been jailed for 20 years following a violent attack in Gravesend. Louis Taylor, 32, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on 21 August after pleading guilty to eight charges, including three counts of rape, wounding with intent, assault by penetration, burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, attempted grievous bodily harm and kidnapping.
Victim escapes at petrol station
The traumatised and injured victim sought help from members of the public at a petrol station on City Way in Rochester on October 18, 2025, urging them to alert the police. Officers arrived at the scene and took the victim into their care. Taylor was apprehended on the same day.
She revealed how Taylor had attacked her, seizing her by the hair and neck and dragging her around a room. He also repeatedly kicked her while wearing steel toe-capped boots, punched her and struck her with a vacuum pole, causing severe injuries. Taylor then sexually assaulted and raped the victim.
Threats and further offences
Following this horrific ordeal, he forced her into a car and threatened to harm her if she 'made a sound'. It was only when he had to halt at a petrol station in Rochester that she was able to raise the alarm.
Taylor was swiftly arrested and, while in custody, an investigation was initiated during which the victim received support from a specially trained sexual offences liaison officer. Further investigations revealed additional offences, including a previous rape and an assault.
Sentence and police response
Additional charges, including intentional suffocation, sexual assault and assault, will remain on file. Taylor has also been indefinitely added to the Sex Offenders' Register.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Rachel Ford stated: "Taylor's horrific offending clearly shows how he is a serious danger to women and to society as a whole. The severity of his sentence reflects that of his crimes as well as the trauma he has caused his victim. The judge commended the victim's bravery, and she has shown immense courage in providing key evidence which enabled justice to be served."
Ford added: "Kent Police is committed to ensuring all victims of violence against women and girls receive vital support and we will always seek to hold offenders to account. In this case I am satisfied Taylor is behind bars where he cannot continue to cause any further harm like that which he has already inflicted."
