Callan Hennessey has been jailed for nine and a half years after police called to his home found his bedsheets covered in his teenage victim's blood. The 22-year-old, of Ferndene Road, Manchester, was sentenced today (27 August) at Manchester Crown Court after being found guilty of rape.
Guilty pleas and conviction
Hennessey pleaded guilty to assault, strangulation, the creation of indecent images, and a further assault. He was also found guilty of a count of rape following a trial. The rape occurred several weeks prior to the assault.
The court was told that Hennessey subjected his victim, a 16-year-old girl, to six weeks of brutal assaults in the run up to April 2025.
Investigation and discovery
An investigation began after a relative of the victim contacted police in April 2025. The girl had been treated at hospital for injuries including two black eyes, bleeding to her ear, a swollen jaw and other abrasions to her head and face.
On April 8, officers attended an address and found bedsheets covered in the victim's blood. The court also heard that a relative had seen blood on Hennessey following the incident.
Sentencing and reaction
Hennessey is now subject to an indefinite restraining order and will be placed on the sex offender's register for life.
Detective Constable James Carter, from GMP's City of Manchester CID, said: "Firstly, I want to pay tribute to the victim in this case – this is something no-one should ever have to go through and her bravery and resilience has been remarkable.
"Hennessey violently attacked someone who is several years younger than him - a child - leaving her in a bloodied and terrified state following the incident. His vile actions, including rape and strangulation, now mean he is rightfully behind bars where he belongs."
