A man convicted of a series of brutal rapes and degrading acts, including soaking his victim with water and writing chilling messages on her skin, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Details of the Case
Aaron Furnival, 31, from Hunter Street, Chester, was found guilty of four counts of rape at Chester Crown Court on Monday, March 9. He had previously admitted to one count of controlling and coercive behaviour. On Monday, June 15, he returned to the same court to receive his 12-year prison sentence.
The court heard that the female victim contacted police to report a pattern of violent, emotional, and sexual abuse. She stated that Furnival would rape her while she was asleep, and she would wake up to find him assaulting her. He also ignored her when she withdrew consent during consensual sex, refusing to stop despite her pleas.
Additional Abusive Acts
Furnival transferred money from the victim's bank account without permission, threw water over her while she slept, and constantly monitored her movements through phone calls and messages. He used foul and abusive language, threatened to kill her, and wrote degrading words on her skin with a marker pen.
When arrested, Furnival denied all allegations but was later charged and convicted following a police investigation.
Police Statement
Detective Sergeant Andy Manson praised the victim's bravery, stating: "We hope the conclusion of this case and the sentence handed to Furnival will provide her with some sense of closure, knowing that the jury saw through his lies." He added: "Furnival’s cruel and abusive behaviour showed he had no regard for his victim’s welfare. He then put her through the stress of a trial after refusing to accept what he had done. Thankfully, he was found guilty and is now facing a considerable time behind bars."
