A pregnant woman and her husband were found hanging from a tree in a forest in Uttarakhand's Pauri district, India. The couple, married just six months ago, went missing while on their way to get a mobile phone repaired.
Disappearance and Discovery
The husband had gone to his in-laws' house four days earlier to bring his wife back home. On July 16, the couple left their home in Bijnor for Kotdwar to get their mobile phone fixed. When they failed to return by evening, worried family members informed the police, and a search operation was launched.
On July 17, their bodies were discovered in a forest area 30 miles from their location. The man's body was brought to Alwar on July 18. The victim's father, a Havildar in the Indian Army, alleged that his daughter-in-law was pregnant and claimed she was gang-raped before the couple was murdered and their bodies hung from a tree.
Allegations and Investigation
Police have not confirmed the allegation and said the investigation is underway. According to the father, his son — who had completed Class 12 and was preparing to join the Army — went to Bijnor on July 15 to bring his wife back after she had been at her parental home for around 15 days. On July 16, the couple left the house but did not return.
Their phones were switched off when family members tried to contact them, leading to a missing persons complaint. The next day, police found the couple's bike parked on the roadside with keys still in the ignition and their bags lying nearby. A search of the surrounding forest led to the discovery of both bodies hanging from a tree late at night. Their damaged mobile phones were also recovered from the spot.
Family Demands Justice
The father insisted that his son and daughter-in-law were living a happy married life and were excitedly preparing to welcome their first child, ruling out any possibility of suicide. He has demanded a fair and high-level investigation into the case. Police said they are investigating all possible angles and further action will be taken based on the postmortem report.
