Two predatory brothers have been handed an 18-year prison sentence for the systematic grooming and sexual exploitation of a vulnerable 12-year-old girl in a case that has shocked Greater Manchester.
Mohammed Yaroob Khan, 35, and 33-year-old Yaseen Khan were described by the judge as having shown "utter contempt" for their young victim, whom they deliberately targeted and manipulated before subjecting her to horrific abuse.
The Systematic Grooming Operation
The court heard how the brothers methodically groomed the child, exploiting her vulnerability and systematically breaking down her defences. They used manipulative tactics to gain her trust before the abuse escalated to the most serious sexual offences.
Detective Constable Sarah Brown of Greater Manchester Police described the case as "truly harrowing," stating: "These men identified a vulnerable young girl and deliberately set out to exploit her. Their actions were calculated, predatory and have had devastating consequences."
Impact on the Young Victim
The emotional impact statement from the victim's family revealed the profound damage caused by the brothers' crimes. "They have stolen her childhood and destroyed her innocence," the statement read. "The happy, trusting girl we knew has been replaced by someone who struggles to trust anyone."
Medical professionals testified to the significant psychological trauma the victim continues to endure, with experts warning that the effects may last a lifetime.
Sentencing and Police Response
At Manchester Crown Court, Judge Suzanne Goddard QC told the defendants: "You identified a vulnerable 12-year-old child and systematically groomed her for your own sexual gratification. The damage you have caused is immeasurable."
Police have praised the bravery of the victim in coming forward and encouraged other victims of grooming to report their experiences. "This case demonstrates that we will relentlessly pursue those who prey on children and ensure they face justice," DC Brown added.
