Former youth leader Henry Day, 76, who was jailed for a series of sexual assaults on boys, has died in prison. Day, from North Walsham, Norfolk, was serving a 13-year sentence for 21 offences and received an additional three-year concurrent term in 2015 for seven further admissions.
Day, also known as Harry, attacked four boys under 16 between 1969 and 1986. He ran summer camps from 1973 to 1995 through his charity, the Young Citizens' Guild, which he founded in the 1950s. He was appointed an MBE in 2004 for his work with children.
Originally convicted in 2009 of 20 sexual offences against eight boys, Day was later found to have assaulted a total of 12 victims, the youngest aged nine. Detective Constable Mark Stratford said Day 'preyed' on children for his own sexual gratification, abusing the trust of parents and the community.
Judge Anthony Bate noted that Day had been offending since the 1970s, despite having no prior convictions until 2009. The additional sentence ensured he remained in prison beyond his original release date from HMP Bure in Norfolk.
