A Camden father faces two decades behind bars after pleading guilty to the brutal abuse of his own toddler daughter in a case that has horrified the New Jersey community.
Jahzir Hill, 24, admitted to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated assault in a Camden County courtroom this week. The disturbing charges stem from incidents occurring between September and November 2022, when his daughter was just one year old.
Graphic evidence presented to the court revealed the extent of the toddler's injuries, including:
- Multiple rib fractures at various stages of healing
- Severe bruising across her body
- A significant brain bleed
- Extensive retinal hemorrhaging
Medical experts confirmed these injuries were consistent with non-accidental trauma, indicating repeated physical abuse rather than isolated incidents.
Prosecutor Grace MacAulay stated: "This case represents every parent's worst nightmare. Instead of protecting his vulnerable child, this defendant inflicted unimaginable suffering."
Hill's sentencing is scheduled for November 8th, where he faces a mandatory term in New Jersey state prison. The court has indicated it will seek the maximum 20-year sentence allowed under the plea agreement.
Child protection services have placed the victim with relatives, where she continues to receive medical treatment and therapeutic support for her physical and psychological injuries.
