The final words of a mother who plunged from a 15th-floor balcony while holding her eight-month-old daughter have been revealed. Nathaly Ramirez, 23, was allegedly pushed over the balcony in the Bronx, New York, in the early morning on Tuesday, October 6.
The baby survived the incident but remains in hospital in critical condition. Ramirez did not survive the fall. Angel Carrasco, 31, was arrested on Wednesday evening on several charges including murder.
Neighbour recounts screams
A neighbour told NBC News she heard Ramirez screaming moments before she saw something hit the ground. She said: “I heard her yelling and screaming, ‘Please don’t do this. My baby. You know my baby is scared. Look at her face,’”
“Next thing you know, I hear her scream, and I see something hit the ground,” she added. Another neighbour said she had heard somebody attempting to kick their way into Ramirez’s apartment in January.
Vigil and remembrance
Ramirez was found on the ground holding the child in a manner that authorities believed may have been an attempt at saving the baby. At a vigil on Wednesday, a former classmate said: “She was always cool with everybody. She always talked to everybody,” adding that if someone was having a bad day, Ramirez would “joke with them to lift their day up.”
Her previous employer, Lishawn Alexander, said the former content creation consultant “was a gem to work with.” He told People: “She was a very radiant person. She was very hardworking, showed tenacity and dedication to pursue her career goals.”
Charges filed
Carrasco has been charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and assault.
