Two serving detectives from London's Metropolitan Police have been suspended and arrested following serious sexual assault allegations, the force has confirmed.
The officers, both attached to the Specialist Crime Command, were taken into custody and remain under criminal investigation. The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified and has launched an immediate investigation into the matter.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated: "Two officers were arrested on suspicion of sexual assault following an allegation. They have been suspended and criminal investigations are ongoing."
The arrest highlights ongoing scrutiny of conduct within the UK's largest police force, which has faced numerous controversies regarding officer behaviour in recent years. The case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), standard procedure for serious allegations against serving officers.
