The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly willing to fully cooperate with the FBI and global authorities as they investigate her estranged father, Thomas Markle, over harrowing child abuse image charges, it has been claimed.
According to a source, Meghan Markle is eager to assist law enforcement following the 82-year-old's shocking arrest last week. They told The Times: "Absolutely she will. She would very much like to."
Doria Ragland's Role in the Investigation
It has also emerged that Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, has actively assisted the FBI with their probe. The 70-year-old former social worker reportedly offered to cooperate with US investigators and helped identify her ex-husband in historic photographs recovered from a California storage unit rented by Mr Markle.
The FBI believes the images date back to when Thomas was in his thirties or forties. This suggests the alleged offences could span more than 50 years, covering a period when Meghan was a young child. Meghan was co-parented for the first nine years of her life before her father reportedly became her main carer in 1990.
Upcoming Joint Appearance in Brussels
The family crisis comes just days before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are scheduled to make a highly anticipated joint appearance. On Tuesday, the couple—who are said to be "very emotional" about the unfolding situation—are expected to attend the Lost Screen Memorial event at the European Parliament in Brussels.
Prince Harry is set to deliver a poignant speech focusing on online child safety. A friend of the couple noted his words will carry profound weight given the current context, stating: "He will be speaking about child safety. You can read into his speech what you will, and it can be taken in any number of ways."
International Probes and Legal Proceedings
Thomas Markle, who has never met his grandchildren, seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet, is now facing multiple international probes. Alongside the FBI investigation, he is being looked into by authorities in Mexico and the Philippines—where he previously lived—following the discovery of alleged separate stashes of material.
The FBI was reportedly alerted to the Hollywood storage units by two witnesses. One is believed to be his son and carer, Thomas Markle Jr, who previously handed separate material to authorities in Cebu City, Philippines.
The international fallout has also sparked intense scrutiny of the Metropolitan Police in the UK. The force has referred itself to the police watchdog over claims it failed to alert global agencies in 2019 after receiving a letter from Markle's first wife, Roslyn Loveless, which raised severe concerns.
Thomas Markle vehemently denies any wrongdoing, previously branding the allegations against him as "sick lies". Bill Essayli, first assistant US attorney, issued a stark warning regarding the case: "These allegations are extremely serious and we will prosecute Markle to the fullest extent of the federal law."
Markle is currently under house arrest at his nursing home and has been fitted with an electronic tag. His next court hearing is expected to take place in California, where the suspected material was found.
