Man charged over alleged Cardiff nightclub sex assault

Police have confirmed that a man is due to appear in court following an alleged sexual assault at a Cardiff nightclub. The incident reportedly occurred at Retro nightclub on Mill Lane in Cardiff in June 2025.

Investigation and arrest

South Wales Police previously stated that initial enquiries during the summer and autumn of 2025 had not identified a suspect, despite issuing a public appeal for information. However, a woman's call for witnesses to come forward led to an arrest in January 2026.

On Tuesday, June 9, WalesOnline sought an update from the force. A spokeswoman confirmed that a 51-year-old man from Neath has been charged with sexual assault by touching and is scheduled to appear at Cardiff Magistrates' Court next month.

Following a CCTV appeal for information, a man from Neath was arrested earlier this year. Simon Headley, 51, of Resolven, Neath, has now been charged with sexual assault by touching. He is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on July 21."

Background

The alleged assault took place at Retro, a popular venue in Cardiff city centre. Police had previously shared a CCTV image as part of their appeal. The case highlights the importance of public assistance in such investigations.
