Conviction for Third Murder
Mark 'The Iceman' Fellows, 45, has been found guilty of a third murder, stabbing child killer Kyle Bevan 25 times in HMP Wakefield on November 4 last year. The conviction places him among a small handful of men in English criminal history to receive two whole-life sentences.
Background: The Paul Massey Murder
On July 26, 2015, Fellows, dressed in combat gear and riding a mountain bike, ambushed Salford 'Mr Big' Paul Massey outside his home in Clifton. Using an Uzi-style sub-machine gun, he shot Massey multiple times, then stood over him and fired again. The murder went unsolved for three years, with police initially considering Fellows a low-level gang figure.
The John Kinsella Murder
On May 5, 2018, Fellows cycled up to John Kinsella in Rainhill, Merseyside, and shot him twice in the back with a Webley revolver. As Kinsella's pregnant partner fled, Fellows fired two more shots into the back of his head. He then handed the gun to accomplice Steven Boyle.
Arrest and Trial
Fellows was arrested on his return from Amsterdam on May 30, 2018. A Garmin Forerunner GPS watch, which he wore during the Great Manchester Run, provided crucial evidence of reconnaissance missions. In January 2019, he was convicted of two murders and given a whole-life term.
Prison Attacks and Third Murder
In 2019, Fellows was slashed with a razor blade at Whitemoor prison and airlifted to hospital. Four years later, at HMP Wakefield, he was stabbed in the head and neck. On November 4, 2023, Fellows, along with David Taylor, 64, and Lee Newell, 57, stabbed Kyle Bevan 25 times in his cell using makeshift weapons. They placed Bevan in bed to conceal the murder until morning. The motive is unclear but may relate to Bevan's crime of killing a child.
During the trial, a nurse reported hearing Taylor shout, 'Nice working with you and The Iceman.' Fellows was also known in prison as the 'Wakefield Dexter,' after the TV character who targets criminals. On June 18, Fellows was found guilty of murder for a third time. Judge Mrs Justice McGowan imposed a new life term, which does not change his existing whole-life sentence but solidifies his status as one of the country's most evil killers.
Louise Lydiate, Massey's former partner, once said of Fellows: 'I have never had so much hatred for one person. He's just so cold and there's no remorse or nothing.'
