Inspired by Nancy Friday's 1973 classic 'My Secret Garden', Anderson invited women globally to share their deepest desires. The actor, known for her role as sex therapist Dr Jean Milburn in 'Sex Education', says the book aims to spark conversations about sexual power and liberation for women.
Anderson reflects on her own relationship with fantasy, noting that as an actor, she is accustomed to exploring alternate realities. She admits to having two sides: one that asks for what she wants, and another that concedes to a partner's desires. She hopes the book will encourage women to say what they truly want, free from pressure or expectation.
One contributor describes a fantasy born from frustration with religious dogma: being pleasured on a church altar, filling the space with moans. Another woman, married for 12 years, created elaborate fantasy worlds—from zombie apocalypses to wizarding realms—to cope with a husband's depression and a lack of intimacy. She says the fantasies help her feel affection and reach orgasm, though she tries to stay present during their monthly lovemaking.
