North Carolina father and daughter charged with incest after DNA confirms paternity
Father and daughter face incest charges after DNA test

A father and his adult daughter are facing serious criminal charges in North Carolina after DNA testing allegedly confirmed the man fathered his daughter's baby boy.

Allegations and Initial Report

The investigation began on 9 May 2024, when Mackenzie Elizabeth Hicks, then aged 18, went to Erwin Police Department. She alleged that her father, Julius Grant Jackson, 40, had sexually assaulted her multiple times, with the abuse starting when she was approximately 13 years old.

According to a search warrant, Hicks initially told detectives that Jackson was aware of the incidents and had considered filing a report but never did. She also expressed reluctance to proceed with the case, reportedly concerned her father could face charges.

Mother's Intervention and DNA Evidence

The case escalated four months later. On 18 September 2024, Mackenzie's biological mother, Danielle Hicks, contacted Detective Ethan Core. She revealed her daughter was pregnant and claimed the pregnancy resulted from abuse by Jackson. Online court records note the mother also suggested some encounters may have been consensual.

This prompted swift action. On 25 September, Detective Charles Norris obtained and executed a search warrant for DNA samples from both Jackson and Mackenzie Hicks. The warrant also covered any items with potential evidentiary value.

The results from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation were conclusive: the DNA confirmed Jackson is the biological father of his daughter's son.

Arrest Attempt, Chase, and Firearms Discovery

When police moved to arrest Jackson based on the DNA evidence, the situation turned into a pursuit. Jackson and an accomplice allegedly fled the scene in Jackson's lorry, leading to a brief chase that ended with their capture.

A subsequent inspection of the vehicle involved in the chase yielded more evidence. Police reported discovering several high-powered, loaded firearms inside the lorry.

Charges and Bail

The charges against both individuals are severe. Julius Grant Jackson, of 214 St. Matthews Road in Erwin, faces a string of charges including:

  • Felony incest
  • Committing a felony crime against nature
  • Felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle
  • Leaving the scene of a crash with property damage (hit and run)
  • Resisting a public officer
  • Possessing a fictitious driving licence
  • Failing to stop for a stop sign or flashing red light

Mackenzie Elizabeth Hicks, now 20 and living at the same address, also faces serious charges. She has been charged with felony incest and committing a felony crime against nature. Her bail has been set at a substantial £1 million.

The case, investigated by Detectives Norris and Core since May 2024, continues to develop as it moves through the North Carolina legal system.
