Ex-Met Officer Carrick Denies New Sex Crime Charges

Former Metropolitan Police officer David Carrick has been handed a 37th life sentence at the Old Bailey, with a minimum term of 30 years, for molesting a 12-year-old girl in the 1980s and raping a former partner. Carrick, 50, who served as an armed officer, denied the fresh allegations but declined to give evidence during his trial.

Mrs Justice McGowan sentenced Carrick after he was found guilty of two counts of rape, one of sexual assault, and coercive and controlling behaviour towards a woman between 2014 and 2019, as well as five counts of indecent assault relating to a girl in the late 1980s. The life sentence runs concurrently with his 36 other offences.

Carrick had previously pleaded guilty in 2022 and 2023 to 71 sexual offences, including 48 rapes, against 12 other women over 17 years. He was handed 36 life sentences in 2023 with a minimum term of 32 years. The judge noted Carrick's 'cynical willingness' to force victims to give evidence due to his continued denial.

In victim impact statements, one woman described reliving her trauma after Carrick's actions became public, while another said she learned 'survival instead' of love. Senior crown prosecutor Shilpa Shah called Carrick a 'manipulative, controlling and abusive man' and praised the victims for coming forward.
