A drunken night out took a criminal turn for a woman who has now been convicted of sexually assaulting a stranger at a popular riverside restaurant. The shocking incident, which was entirely captured on the establishment's comprehensive CCTV system, has resulted in a suspended prison sentence.
The court heard how the intoxicated woman, identified only as Kayleigh Hill, approached a male diner who was enjoying a meal with his partner. In a brazen and unprovoked attack, she proceeded to sexually assault him in full view of other patrons.
A Brazen Attack Captured on Camera
Prosecutors presented clear CCTV footage showing Hill, 31, touching the victim inappropriately without his consent. The victim's partner immediately confronted Hill, leading to a physical altercation between the two women before staff could intervene.
The judge noted the particularly vulnerable position of the victim, who was targeted while simply trying to enjoy a meal. The assault caused significant distress to both the victim and his partner, with the psychological impact continuing to affect them.
Suspended Sentence and Rehabilitation Order
Despite the seriousness of the offence, Hill received a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. She was also placed on a rehabilitation activity requirement for 35 days and ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work.
The court took into account Hill's early guilty plea and what was described as her 'genuine remorse' for the alcohol-fuelled incident. However, the judge emphasised that being drunk was no excuse for such criminal behaviour.
This case serves as a stark reminder that sexual assault is a serious crime regardless of the perpetrator's gender or intoxication level, with lasting impacts on victims.
