Couple Charged with Bestiality and Child Cruelty in Louisiana

Phillip Babin, 28, and Hailey Mire, 34, have been arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse of an animal and child cruelty following an investigation that began with a violent assault on a child. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office announced the charges on June 26, 2026.

Initial Assault and Investigation

In May 2026, Babin allegedly struck a child in the face with a curtain rod, causing injuries. Detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest on second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. He was arrested on May 15 and released after posting $50,000 bail.

As the investigation continued, detectives obtained a search warrant for the couple's residence. During the search, they seized digital devices belonging to Mire and Babin, which contained horrific videos of sexual acts involving a dog.

Charges Filed

Babin was charged with 36 counts of sexual abuse of an animal in addition to the initial child cruelty charge. His bail was set at $360,000. Mire was charged with 47 counts of sexual abuse of an animal and obstruction of justice, with bail set at $520,000, according to Sheriff Craig Webre.

The couple were arrested on June 17, 2026, and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux, Louisiana. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Legal Penalties

Under Louisiana law, second-degree cruelty to juveniles carries a sentence of up to 40 years of hard labor. Bestiality is prosecuted under animal cruelty and crimes against nature statutes, with felony convictions punishable by one to 10 years of hard labor and fines up to $25,000.
