Coronation Street fans are predicting a rapid departure for the soap's controversial new character, teacher Megan Walsh, after a deeply unsettling bedroom scene aired this week. Viewers of the ITV stalwart were left appalled as the athletics coach, played by actress Beth Nixon, took her teenage pupil Will Driscoll to a hotel on his sixteenth birthday.
Shocking Birthday 'Gift' Sparks Outrage
In the latest episode of the world's longest-running TV soap, which aired on Wednesday 19 December 2025, Will celebrated becoming 'finally legal'. He met his secret lover, Megan, in the café and presented her with a hotel key card. Once in the room, she told him: "Let's go to bed, I love it when we're alone. No-one will ever love you as much as I do."
Meanwhile, Will's family grew worried at the Rovers Return when he failed to answer his phone. The situation escalated when Ronnie Bailey revealed he had checked into fiancée Debbie's hotel, inadvertently providing Will's brother Ben and father Ollie with the room number. They raced to the scene and began battering on the door just as Will and Megan considered getting up.
A Web of Deceit Unravels
In a panic, Megan hid in the bathroom while Ollie and Ben demanded entry. Will's father managed to extract a confession that a girl was hiding, but Ben assumed it was an old flame from their time in Hull. After they left, Megan brazenly wormed her way back into the family fold, joining them for drinks at the pub later that evening.
All the while, Megan has been weaving a complex web of deception. To cover her tracks, she has cultivated a relationship with Weatherfield High colleague Daniel Osbourne, played by Rob Mallard, and even secured a job at the school to be closer to Will. The situation was made more fraught when Eva unintentionally invited both Megan and Daniel to the Rovers for Christmas Day.
Viewer Backlash and Future Twists
The controversial scenes prompted an immediate and furious reaction on social media. One viewer wrote: "Oh God that evil teacher Megan is going to take Will to bed," accompanied by a sick emoji. Another stated bluntly: "I seriously hate Megan she can f*** right off to prison."
A third fan speculated on the character's longevity, posting: "Megan is now officially a sex offender. I guess they are not intending to keep her long term as I can't see how she can stay now?"
Actress Beth Nixon, who joined the Coronation Street cast in November 2025, teased dark times ahead. "Poor Will. Megan is the devil in disguise and we are going to really see how evil she is," the 25-year-old said. "She will stop at nothing and she will do anything she wants to stay on top. Everything she does is for a reason and it’s to serve herself and nobody else."
She revealed that tension will mount over Christmas dinner with the Driscolls, describing Megan as "spinning so many plates" in a "ticking time bomb" scenario. The storyline, developed in consultation with the children's charity Barnardo's, aims to highlight the realities of grooming. Nixon expressed hope that it would help viewers in similar situations realise they are not alone.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
