Burnham slams Brand and praises victims' bravery

Andy Burnham has condemned Russell Brand's "horrifying" actions and praised the bravery of the women who spoke out against the comedian, following Brand's conviction for sexual offences.

Speaking to Times Radio, Burnham said: "It's horrifying what Russell Brand has done. I'd firstly like to praise the bravery of the women, the victims in the case, who've come forward and had the courage to speak out."

Prime Minister praises journalists

The Prime Minister also personally praised the journalists who worked on uncovering Brand's actions, saying they "supported those who had been abused by Russell Brand and worse."

Burnham concluded that "all of them deserve our praise for having that courage to stand forward."

Conviction at Southwark Crown Court

Burnham's comments come after Brand was found guilty of four sexual offences following a four-week trial at Southwark Crown Court in London.

The disgraced TV and film star faces a substantial time behind bars for his crimes, which included the rape of one of his fans as well as three other counts of sexual assault. He was found not guilty of two other counts of rape and one of attempted sexual assault.
