Builder Jailed for Life: Chilling Double Rape Attacks on Two Victims in Cambridge
Builder gets life for double rape attacks in Cambridge

A construction worker has been handed a life sentence for a series of brutal sex attacks on two vulnerable victims in Cambridge, in a case that has shocked the local community.

Arsen-Ashot Mikoian, 30, was branded an "exceptionally dangerous" predator by a judge at Cambridge Crown Court after being convicted of raping a woman and a teenage girl in separate attacks just months apart.

A Pattern of Predatory Violence

The court heard how Mikoian's first attack occurred in November 2022, when he targeted a woman walking alone. The labourer dragged his victim to a secluded area where he subjected her to a terrifying sexual assault.

Just three months later, in February 2023, Mikoian struck again - this time preying on a teenage girl. The court was told he followed the young victim before attacking her and leaving her body by a river, where she was later discovered by a member of the public.

Justice Served with Life Sentence

Judge Mark Bishop sentenced Mikoian to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 13 years and 6 months before parole consideration. In his sentencing remarks, the judge stated that Mikoian presented "a significant risk of serious harm to the public."

"These were horrific attacks on two vulnerable victims who have shown tremendous courage throughout this investigation and trial," said Detective Sergeant Emma Oliver, who led the investigation. "Mikoian is a dangerous individual who poses a serious threat to women."

Community Impact and Police Response

The case has prompted increased police patrols in the areas where the attacks occurred. Cambridgeshire Police have commended the bravery of both victims in coming forward and helping to secure the conviction.

Local authorities have also highlighted support services available for sexual violence survivors, urging anyone affected to seek help through dedicated hotlines and support networks.
