Brave Teenager, 13, Told Teacher About Rape, Leading to Paedophile's 10-Year Sentence
Brave Girl, 13, Reports Rape, Paedophile Jailed for 10 Years

A 13-year-old girl has been praised for her remarkable courage after she reported being raped by a 64-year-old paedophile. David McDonald, from Newton Aycliffe, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Friday, June 5, after a jury found him guilty of raping the teenager.

Brave Disclosure to Teacher

The victim, who was just 13 at the time of the abuse, confided in a teacher about the horrific ordeal. This led to McDonald's arrest by Durham Constabulary. He faced multiple charges, including rape and several counts of sexual assault. Although he denied the allegations, a trial at Durham Crown Court resulted in a guilty verdict for rape. He was acquitted of other charges.

Impact on the Victim

In a powerful victim impact statement, the girl told the court that McDonald had ruined her life. The judge also imposed an indefinite restraining order, preventing McDonald from contacting the victim, and placed him on the sex offenders' register for life.
