Babysitter Arrested for Sexual Assault of Toddler, Cries in Court
Babysitter Arrested for Sexual Assault of Toddler

Victoria Anne Cranmer, 25, a babysitter from New Jersey, was arrested on July 8 on charges including sexual assault on a child, endangering the welfare of a child, creating child sexual abuse material, and possession of child sexual abuse material. The alleged incidents occurred in May, involving a two-year-old child she was babysitting.

Discovery of the Footage

According to local news outlet Patch, Cranmer used a mobile phone given to her by her ex-roommate, referred to as 'Ms. P' in court documents. After Cranmer was evicted, she returned the phone, and Ms. P found a 14-second Snapchat video allegedly showing Cranmer laughing while behaving inappropriately with the child in the bathroom. Police identified Cranmer through unique tattoos, including one of 'boobs' on her leg, her voice, and the bathroom in the video.

Additional Evidence

On May 28, authorities obtained search warrants for Cranmer's phone and Snapchat account, uncovering other saved videos. One clip allegedly showed Cranmer sitting on a toilet with her genitals exposed while the child touched her, with laughter audible in the recording. Investigators also claimed Cranmer took a bath with the toddler.

Court Proceedings

During a hearing on July 14, Cranmer was recorded sobbing as a judge ruled she would be held without bail, describing the incident as 'bizarre' and 'troubling.' Her lawyer, Marissa Koerner, argued that the video had been 'blown out of proportion,' stating, 'Children often engage in funny, spontaneous or strange behavior that adults record because the moment is memorable or humorous. Anyone who has spent time caring for young children understands that children often have little appreciation for personal space or privacy.'

Impact on the Child

The child's mother, 'Ms. H,' told police that after Cranmer babysat her son, he began behaving strangely, particularly avoiding bath time. She also learned that Cranmer had bathed with her son. The child was reportedly in nappies at the time of the alleged offenses, and court documents indicate Cranmer was 23 years older than the victim.
