Three men have been jailed over an attempted murder in Greenock that left their victim scarred for life. William Kerrigan, 23, Andrew Rennie, 26, and Lee Heron, 29, pleaded guilty last month to the attempted murder of a 44-year-old man.
Sentences handed down at High Court
At the High Court in Glasgow on Tuesday, Kerrigan was sentenced to four years and six months in prison, Rennie was given an 18-month sentence, and Heron received 15 months behind bars for the incident that left the man seriously injured.
The attack followed a disturbance reported in Cathcart Square in the early hours of Sunday, January 25, 2026. Emergency services, including Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service, responded to the scene in the Inverclyde town.
Victim hospitalised with life-changing injuries
The man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow after suffering serious injuries that have since left him permanently disfigured. A large cordon was set up around Bank Street, Clyde Square and Cathcart Street, and drivers needing access to Wellpark Mid Kirk Church were diverted.
An investigation was launched alongside a public appeal for information. Detective Inspector Nicky Beattie said: “The injured man sustained injuries that endangered his life and have caused permanent disfigurement. Such violence is not acceptable in our communities and these three men are now facing the consequences of their involvement.”
Police thank public for assistance
Beattie added: “I would like to thank the public who assisted officers during their investigation.”
