Six dangerous sex offenders have been swept from Britain's streets this week, locked up for a combined total of 98 years and one month. From horrifying street attacks to the sickening abuse of vulnerable children, courts across the country have handed down extended sentences to ensure the predators can no longer cause harm.
Growing Outrage Over Lenient Sentences
It comes as public outrage continues to grow over what critics slam as a "soft-touch" justice system. Only days ago, the Government's most senior law officer was asked to review the "unduly lenient" sentence handed to Paul Quinn — a rapist who evaded police for two decades in one of Britain's biggest miscarriages of justice.
Quinn was jailed last week for a minimum of 14 years, meaning the actual perpetrator will likely spend less time behind bars than Andrew Malkinson, the innocent man who served 17 years after being wrongly convicted of the crime.
The Rapists Jailed This Week
Gagandeep Singh (34 years)
Investigated by the Met Police, Singh subjected a woman to a terrifying ordeal of rape and torture in Hanwell, London. He was handed a 28-year custodial sentence with a further six-year extended licence.
Dameon Etherington (18 years)
Brought down by Hampshire Police, he was jailed for a vicious rape and historic child sex offences across Portsmouth and Havant. He was sentenced to 14 years in custody and four on licence at Portsmouth Crown Court.
Gary Day-Davies (15 years)
A former teacher snared by Greater Manchester Police, he was sentenced for historic child sex offences against a vulnerable pupil in Salford.
Sheraz Malik (14 years)
Nottinghamshire Police ensured this asylum seeker was jailed after a horrific park rape. He faces a 10-year custodial term, a four-year extended licence, and expects deportation upon release.
David McDonald (10 years)
Investigated by Durham Constabulary and sentenced at Durham Crown Court, he was jailed for the rape of a child in Newton Aycliffe.
Dylan Matthews (7 years, 1 month)
Merseyside Police secured the conviction of this Liverpool man at Liverpool Crown Court for multiple disturbing child sex offences.
In addition, Shah Nawaz was handed a life sentence following an investigation by Lancashire Police. Convicted of sexually assaulting two women in Accrington, 70-year-old Nawaz was told by the judge he must serve a minimum of 13 years and 362 days before he can even be considered for parole.
