Russell Brand 'cowering in fear' as inmates taunt rapist

Russell Brand is reportedly "cowering in fear" in prison as inmates taunt the disgraced comedian who was convicted of rape this week. Brand, 51, is at HMP Wandsworth in London as he awaits his sentencing.

The judge said on Thursday that Brand can expect a substantial custodial sentence, denying him the opportunity to say farewell to his family due to the severity of his crimes.

Inmates taunt Brand with chants

The Mail on Sunday now reports that inmates at HMP Wandsworth are already taunting Brand with chants and threats.

Inmates reportedly sang: "There's a Brand new n***e on the wing! A Brand new n***e. Brand, you c***, you ain't so f***ing lairy now."

A source also told the paper: "Weekends at Wandsworth can be boring as the prison is so understaffed, meaning there is usually very little out-of-cell time for prisoners.

"There is no outside exercise in the yard. Dinner or tea is served to prisoners at 4.30pm and then prisoners are back in their cells until 8am the next morning.

"They have to get their amusement somewhere, so they've made Brand the object, with hundreds of prisoners shouting the chant.

"Brand only leaves his cell to collect his food at mealtimes before returning. He is going around like a shadow.

"So far it's only been verbal abuse, but that doesn't mean that if somehow another prisoner bumps into him, it won't be just verbal, as any celebrity is a high-end target."

Potential threats from inmates

The source also said Brand will likely have to "line the pockets" of inmates who "run the wing" to ensure he isn't threatened.

Brand will be sentenced on Monday.
