Aiden Freeman, a 28-year-old man from Godalming, has been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for sexually abusing a girl from the age of nine. During the investigation, Freeman told police that the victim was 'lying for attention.'
Conviction and Sentencing
Freeman, of White Star Close in Godalming, was convicted at Lewes Crown Court on March 30 of two counts of assault by penetration and three counts of rape, all involving a child under 13. He denied the allegations throughout the investigation. On June 4, the same court sentenced him to seven years and six months’ imprisonment.
Police Response and Victim Support
Sussex Police Detective Constable Sarah MacKnamara commended the victim's bravery. 'This was a serious and prolonged pattern of sexual offending over many years,' she said. 'I would like to commend the bravery of the victim for reporting this matter to police, supporting the prosecution and helping to bring her abuser to justice.' The victim, who was nine when the abuse started, is receiving support from specially trained officers.
Public Safety and Encouragement to Report
MacKnamara added, 'I understand how challenging investigations such as these are for victims, but thanks to her Aiden Freeman is now rightly behind bars where he poses no further risk to the public.' She urged other victims of sexual abuse to report it, stating, 'We will listen to you, we will support you and we will do all we can to get you justice.'
