A rapist who was arrested at Manchester Airport after fleeing the country more than half a decade ago has been found guilty of a series of sex offences.

Muhammed Khalid, aged 55 and from Huddersfield, fled the UK in 2020 while under police investigation for a range of offences allegedly committed in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Arrest on return to Britain

On April 23 this year, Khalid was arrested at Manchester Airport after returning to Britain.

Earlier today he was found guilty of eight offences including rape, sexual assault and supplying Class A drugs following a seven-day trial at Leeds Crown Court.

Guilty verdicts and sentencing

The jury found him guilty of five counts of rape, and an offence of sexual assault against one survivor, with offending taking place in the Kirklees area and involving two victims.

He was also found guilty of two counts of providing Class A drugs to a second victim in 2005.

The 55-year-old will be sentenced on November 24.
