A man who racially abused a petrol station employee, spat at police officers and elbowed one officer in the face has been handed a suspended prison sentence.
Jordan Longworth, 24, was involved in an incident at Adlington Motor Services in Chorley on October 20, when police were called following reports of a collision.
Two men had fled before officers arrived, while a third man, later identified as Longworth, initially remained at the scene. He subsequently ran away but later returned, where officers arrested him.
Abuse in police van and custody
While being held in the back of a police van, Longworth directed racist abuse towards the petrol station employee. His behaviour continued after he was taken into custody, where he spat in the faces of two police officers and elbowed one officer in the face.
Longworth, of Kemble Close, Horwich, appeared at Preston Magistrates' Court on October 22, where he admitted racially aggravated harassment and two counts of assaulting a police officer.
Police statement on the incident
Sharing a photo, a Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "This is Jordan Longworth and he has been sentenced after racially abusing a petrol station worker and spitting on the faces of two police officers."
"Longworth repeatedly aimed racist abuse whilst at Adlington Motor Services on Market Street, Chorley, on October 20th. This happened after our officers were called to a report that a car had crashed into the petrol station and three males were then fighting. Two of the males fled the scene before officers arrived and we spoke to the third male - Longworth."
"He then fled the scene before returning where he resisted arrest. However, Longworth was subsequently put in the back of a police van. Whilst in the van, Longworth shouted racial abuse at the petrol station worker and the racial language continued in custody. He then spat in the faces of two police officers and elbowed one of them in the face."
Sentence and requirements
After pleading guilty to all three offences, Longworth received a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.
He was also ordered to undertake a four-month alcohol treatment requirement and a rehabilitation activity requirement. In addition, he must pay £200 in compensation.
