Parents tried to resuscitate 'bubbly' boy, 2, found dead in bed

The parents of a two-year-old boy tried to resuscitate their son after he was found dead in bed. Sebastian Karl Griffiths, who was described as "bubbly" and "funny", died on August 3, 2025.

Inquest opened at South Wales Central Coroners' Court

An inquest was opened at South Wales Central Coroners' Court into his death at his home in Bute Street, Treorchy, with his family present. The inquest heard he was well when he went to bed the previous evening.

Sebastian slept in his bedroom, which he shared with his siblings. When his mother checked on him the next morning, she found him unresponsive in his bed.

Resuscitation attempts and provisional cause of death

His parents began CPR, and police and paramedics arrived shortly after. They then carried out resuscitation attempts. Despite their best efforts, he was declared dead.

A pathologist has provided a provisional cause of death as unascertained.

Tribute and adjournment

Coroner Andrew Morse has adjourned the inquest until a date to be fixed to allow evidence to be gathered.

A family friend described Sebastian as "bubbly and funny, full of character" in a tribute to him after his death.
