A paedophile who told a "mum" he wanted to rape her 12-year-old daughter and baby son has been jailed for seven years. James Madgin, 41, messaged three different online profiles between November last year and February. What he did not know was that each one was a decoy and he was discussing his sick imaginings with the police.
Decoy profiles
The first profile appeared as a 12-year-old girl named "Poppy". Teesside Crown Court heard how Madgin, from Sherburn Village near Durham, said she was "cute" and wanted to have sex with her. Judge Andrew Hatton said: "You said you were a 'paedo' and told her you were turned on."
The court heard how Madgin wanted to see the "girl" on camera and described how he would have sex with her. When the police decoy sent him an image, Madgin replied: "Damn, you're cute... I know I shouldn't say that."
Madgin in January started chatting to another police decoy posing as a teacher named "Chris" from Liverpool. When Madgin was told by "Chris" that he had groomed a 12-year-old girl, Madgin replied, "Oh nice".
Explicit messages
Judge Hatton told Madgin: "You said in graphic detail you would have sexual intercourse with a child. You discussed where the abuse might happen and suggested an Airbnb."
The third decoy profile was a woman named "Kelly", who had a 12-year-old daughter she was abusing and a one-year-old son. Teesside Crown Court heard that Madgin tried to arrange to rape both children, The Chronicle reports.
Madgin told "Kelly" he was interested in children aged from zero to five, but was "flexible up to nine". Judge Hatton said Madgin's messages included "grossly explicit" detail and sent the decoy a picture of his penis.
Previous convictions
When police raided his Madgin's home they found 983 indecent still and moving images. Of these, 534 were in the most severe category A and depicted children as young as six-months-old.
The paedophile, who had been jailed previously for child sex offences, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images; one count of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and two counts of arranging the commission of a child sexual offence.
Madgin was jailed for eight months in 2009 for making indecent images and distribution of indecent images. He was also put on the sex offenders' register for 10 years, which had since elapsed. The court was told that his wife still supports him.
Madgin appeared via video link from HMP Holme House. In addition to his seven year sentence, he will be on the Sex Offenders' Register for life and be subject to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
