A man who bit and stamped on his partner and verbally abused her after accusing her of being unfaithful has been sentenced at Swansea Crown Court. Levi Walters, 28, attacked the woman in the early hours of August 16 after she returned from a night out in Swansea.
Attack Details
The court heard that Walters became paranoid while the complainant was out, sending her a voice message saying: "I will see you when I see you. Just make sure you don't get kidnapped or raped." When she returned to his home in Cimla, he demanded to see her phone, and when she refused, he called her a "f******ing liar and a f****** rat" and began screaming in her face.
Walters then grabbed the phone and repeatedly hit the woman in the face with it, shattering the screen, before biting her on the ear and stamping on her legs. When the victim called a friend for help, he attacked her again with a "two-footed jump" and threatened to kill the friend if she came to the house.
Aftermath and Arrest
The complainant fled to her friend's Uber "in tears and hyperventilating," and police arrested Walters at the address shortly after 2am. Officers found a bag of cannabis in his bedroom, but no charges resulted from that discovery. In a statement read to the court, the victim said she felt "incredibly vulnerable" and suffered from panic attacks, anxiety, and nightmares, adding: "I just want Levi to be as far away from me as possible."
Sentencing
Judge Geraint Walters described domestic violence as a "scourge on society" and called the defendant's behaviour "truly appalling," carried out in "some sort of irrational, jealous rage." With discounts for his guilty pleas, Walters was sentenced to 14 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, comprising six months for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and eight months for two counts of making threats to kill, to run consecutively. He must also complete a rehabilitation requirement and an accredited programme to address temper issues, and a five-year restraining order bans him from contacting his ex or posting about her on social media.
