Man jailed for 22 child sexual offences

Robert Erdei, of Leigh, has been sentenced to five years and seven months in prison at Liverpool Crown Court on November 6 after pleading guilty to 22 counts of sexual offences against a child.

The offending took place between October 2024 and December 2024. The charges included 13 counts of sexual activity with a child, eight counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and one count of causing a child to watch a sexual act.

Arrest and investigation

Greater Manchester Police reported that Erdei was arrested on suspicion of child sex offences against a child under the age of 16 after a report by a partner agency. Investigators identified evidence of a range of sexual offending and submitted a case file to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Police response

Detective Sergeant Pyke, of the Child Protection Investigation Unit based in Wigan, said: “My thoughts remain with the survivor concerned in this horrific case and their family. Erdei has showed clear intent and wilfully engaged in sexual offending against the most vulnerable of victims, a child.”

“Protecting children will always be the highest priority at GMP and we will always take the strongest possible action where allegations of this nature are made.”
