Najat Ismail, 53, of Grangetown, has been jailed for 20 years with an additional five years on licence for multiple counts of rape. The sentence was handed down at Cardiff Crown Court on August 4 following two separate trials.
Guilty verdicts and sentencing
Ismail was found guilty of three counts of rape on April 20, 2026, and a further nine counts on May 7, 2026. He has also been made subject to a restraining order in relation to both victims.
Detective Chief Inspector Geraint Higgins, from South Wales Police, said: "Ismail is a dangerous predator, and I would like to thank the victims in these cases for their immense courage and strength in reporting Ismail’s actions to us and enabling us to get to this verdict today."
Impact on victims
According to WalesOnline, Ismail repeatedly raped two women 10 years apart. His first victim was raped on nine occasions, during which she "cried and pleaded" with him. Cardiff Crown Court heard she has "constant flashbacks" and gets food delivered to avoid interactions as she finds it hard to trust new people.
The second victim moved jobs and described living in "fear and survival mode", the news outlet reported.
Higgins added: "I hope they find some comfort in the jail sentence given to him."
