Inquest Reveals Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins Died from Neck Stab Wound in Prison
Lostprophets Singer Watkins Died from Neck Stab Wound

The disgraced former frontman of Welsh rock band Lostprophets, Ian Watkins, died from a single stab wound to the neck, a prison inquest has heard.

The 47-year-old musician was found unresponsive in his cell at HMP Wakefield, a high-security prison in West Yorkshire, on October 22nd. Medical evidence presented to the hearing confirmed the cause of death as a catastrophic neck injury.

Prison Investigation Underway

The inquest opening at Wakefield Coroner's Court was told that Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene after prison staff discovered him with critical injuries. The incident occurred at the category A prison, which houses some of Britain's most dangerous offenders.

Coroner Jonathan Leach confirmed that a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Watkins' death is ongoing. The hearing was adjourned to allow time for further enquiries by prison authorities and West Yorkshire Police.

Notorious History

Watkins was serving a 29-year sentence imposed in 2013 for what the sentencing judge described as "a catalogue of the most vile and depraved sexual offences" against children. The former rock star had been incarcerated at HMP Wakefield since his conviction.

The prison, often referred to as "Monster Mansion" due to its high-profile inmate population, has faced previous scrutiny over safety and security concerns. Prison service protocols require a mandatory investigation into all deaths in custody.

The inquest will resume at a later date once all evidence has been gathered and reviewed. Prison authorities have declined to comment further while investigations continue.
