Life sentence for husband in brutal scissors murder

Jealous Rage Ends in Brutal Scissors Murder

A Texas man will spend the rest of his life in prison after being sentenced for the brutal murder of his wife, whom he stabbed more than 30 times with a pair of scissors.

Brian Alan Jutson Sr, 47, received a life sentence on 13 November from District Judge Kyle Hawthorne for the 2023 killing of Sherry Shugart Jutson.

Seven-Hour Drive to Confrontation

Court documents reveal that Jutson, consumed by suspicions of his wife's infidelity, left his job in West Texas and embarked on a non-stop, seven-hour drive to confront her at their home.

Upon his arrival, a violent domestic disturbance ensued. During a subsequent police interview, Jutson confessed to the horrific acts, admitting he strangled Sherry and repeatedly stabbed her with a pair of scissors.

Tragically, he recalled his wife's desperate pleas for mercy as she begged, "Baby, I love you please stop. I'm dying." Jutson stated he could not remember the exact number of times he stabbed her.

Children in the House During Attack

The College Station Police Department was alerted to the scene following a chilling 911 call in June 2023, where the caller stated their father had murdered their stepmother.

When EMS responders arrived, they discovered Sherry's lifeless body in the master bedroom. Authorities confirmed that two children were present in the house at the time of the murder, though they had not witnessed the gruesome act.

After the attack, Jutson took a shower to wash off his wife's blood before fleeing the property. He was later located and detained with assistance from the Bryan Police Department and the Department of Public Safety.

Guilty Plea and Life Sentence

While Brian Jutson pleaded guilty to the murder, prosecutors presented additional evidence during the penalty phase of the trial.

This evidence included witness accounts of the attack and messages Jutson had sent to his wife in the days leading up to her death, painting a clearer picture of the events that culminated in this tragic case of domestic violence.

With his life sentence now confirmed, Jutson will remain incarcerated in a state correctional facility.
