Life sentence for 100+ stab wound murder in Hampshire

Grandmother Murdered in Pre-Christmas Horror Attack

A 39-year-old man has been handed a life sentence for the brutal murder of his grandmother-in-law, whom he stabbed more than 100 times. Adam David Wright carried out the horrific attack on June Henty at her home in Wickham, Hampshire, just before Christmas.

Police discovered Mrs Henty on December 23, 2023, with devastating injuries to her head and neck. She had suffered haemorrhages from major blood vessels and a bleed on the brain.

Six-Month Fight for Life and Crucial Evidence

Despite the ferocity of the assault, June Henty showed incredible fortitude. Before losing consciousness, she was able to utter Wright's name to attending officers, providing a vital lead for the investigation.

She was rushed to hospital and spent six months in intensive care, battling her injuries. Tragically, she succumbed to them on June 14, 2024.

Wright, formerly of Grovers Field in Bishops Waltham, was arrested on the same day as the attack and later charged with murder.

Life Sentence and Family's Heartbreaking Tribute

Appearing at Portsmouth Crown Court, Wright was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 24 years after previously pleading guilty.

June's family paid a moving tribute to their 'kind and loving' mother and grandmother, describing her as their 'world' and the 'heart of the family'. They said she was a 'pillar of strength' who always put her family first.

Senior Investigating Officer DI Tim Judd stated that while no sentence could return June to her family, he hoped the conviction would provide some closure. He praised June's bravery, confirming that her identification of Wright was crucial to the case.
