A jealous boyfriend who bit chunks from his teenage girlfriend's face, cut her with a knife and strangled her during a terrifying ordeal has been jailed.
Marc McAloon, 21, of North View, Felling, Gateshead, pleaded guilty to criminal damage, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation, threats to kill and false imprisonment at Newcastle Crown Court.
Attack after birthday celebrations
The court heard McAloon attacked the victim after she returned home with him following his birthday celebrations, accusing her of messaging other men. He held her captive for at least nine hours, repeatedly assaulted her, tried to gouge her eyes out and cut her with a knife.
In a victim impact statement, the woman said: "The level of violence he used against me was sadistic. I genuinely believed I would die that night. I have vivid memories of him smiling and laughing. I was in survival mode."
Sentencing and restraining order
Sentencing McAloon to 57 months in prison, Recorder Brian Whitehead said the attack included elements of "sadistic conduct" and McAloon was made subject to a lifelong restraining order.
