Mohammad Bashir, 31, has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 17 years for plotting a terrorist attack at a defence base with the man who later carried out an atrocity at a synagogue in Crumpsall.
Bashir, from Manchester, planned with Jihad Al-Shamie to attack the Defence Academy in Shrivenham, Oxfordshire, a college for the UK Armed Forces. The pair, who lived in Crumpsall and Prestwich respectively, made a ten-hour round trip to the campus to conduct hostile reconnaissance.
No attack took place
No attack ever occurred. However, about seven weeks later, on October 2 last year, Al-Shamie, 35, drove his Kia Picanto into the gates of Heaton Park synagogue and began attacking with a knife while wearing a fake suicide belt. The atrocity took place on Yom Kippur, the most holy day in the Jewish calendar.
