Family's Joyful Day Turns to Tragedy

A routine family outing ended in unimaginable tragedy earlier this year, leading to a six-year prison sentence for the driver responsible. Veselin Dudenski, 39, was jailed at Lincoln Crown Court for causing the death of seven-year-old Elsie Gascoigne by dangerous driving.

The Fatal Collision on the B1202

The incident occurred on Friday, January 3, on the B1202 in Lincolnshire. Elsie, from Metheringham, had just been on a shopping trip with her family and was a passenger in a blue Kia. The court heard that Dudenski, driving a white Citroen Relay van, attempted a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre.

This action resulted in a head-on collision between the van and the Kia. The young girl sustained serious injuries in the crash and was rushed to hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Elsie died the following day.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

Dudenski, of Cherry Avenue in Branston, appeared at Lincoln Crown Court in September, where he pleaded guilty to two charges relating to the fatal collision. When he returned for sentencing, he was wearing a grey jacket and black jumper.

The judge handed down a prison term of six years for the offence of causing death by dangerous driving. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from a single moment of poor judgement on the road.
